Poll reveals New Jersey voters support the Program

A recent poll conducted by Fairleigh Dickinson University, sponsored by the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey, shows strong bipartisan support for the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension Improvements Program. The survey found that 58 percent of New Jersey voters back the project, citing the need to address increased traffic jams. Anthony Russo, President of the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey, emphasized the importance of updating infrastructure to accommodate significant increases in shipping.

Jersey City Public Information Center Held

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority held the third in-person Public Information Center (PIC) for the first project of the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension Improvements Program. The PIC took place in Jersey City on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. in the Mary McLeod Bethune Life Center. The event followed the format of an open house and included a presentation and opportunities for residents to ask questions and speak one-on-one with Turnpike Authority officials and members of the Program team. There were information stations around the room so that residents could learn more about the first project, the reconstruction between Interchanges 14 and 14A, and its benefits and opportunities.

President of Hudson County Building Trades Pat Kelleher Pens Op-Ed Supporting the Program

Pat Kelleher, President of Hudson County Building Trades, recently published an op-ed on NJ.com on labor’s support for the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension Improvements Program. In the op-ed, he explains why it is critical that the aging Turnpike Extension is replaced. He also highlights the tremendous economic benefits to NJ workers and the economy.

US Coast Guard Extends Public Comment Period for Draft NEPA EA

The US Coast Guard has extended the public comment period for the draft NEPA EA for the first project, the reconstruction between Interchanges 14 and 14A. Members of the public will have until Saturday, July 13th, to submit comments to the US Coast Guard. Although the draft NEPA EA and public comment process are governed by the US Coast Guard, the Turnpike Authority encourages members of the public to review the draft NEPA EA and provide comments. The draft NEPA EA is available on the Environmental Responsibility page of this website and print copies can be found at libraries in Bayonne, Jersey City, and Newark. The library locations can also be found on the Environmental Responsibility page.

Bayonne Public Information Center Held

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority held the second in-person Public Information Center for the first project of the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension Improvements Program. The Public Information Center took place on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, in the Woodrow Wilson School #10 gymnasium from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The event followed the format of an open house and included remarks by City of Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis and Assemblyman William Sampson IV, a presentation, and opportunities for residents to ask questions and speak one-on-one with Turnpike Authority officials and members of the Program team. There were information stations around the room so that residents could learn more about the first project, the reconstruction between Interchanges 14 and 14A, and its benefits and opportunities.
