The Newark Bay–Hudson County Extension Improvements Program is committed to creating economic opportunities for local residents and strengthening the communities surrounding the Extension. As part of this commitment, the Program is developing a workforce initiative that encourages contractors and consultants to connect qualified local residents with apprenticeship and career opportunities related to Program work.
The initiative will focus on partnering with workforce development organizations to help identify local candidates for construction and non-construction-related roles. Increasing local workforce participation is part of the Program’s broader goals of building goodwill and trust and helping to ensure local communities benefit from the economic opportunities generated. It also aligns with the objectives of the Project 1 Adaptive Management Plan. The Adaptive Management Plan is part of the Environmental Assessment. It outlines specific measures that will be undertaken by the Turnpike Authority to continue our outreach efforts to keep the community informed about upcoming construction activities. It also details how we will proactively monitor air, noise, and vibration in areas proximate to construction activities.
